USS Rosenante Compile Through the Looking Glass 8 ==================== Through the Looking Glass Day 1 Stardate: 2414.06.11 ==================== (Runabout Cousteau, Ambassador Joanne Turner, Day 1, 1941) The Starfleet people finally decided on a course of action, though Jo had no idea why Lieutenant Commander Matrix beamed over to the other runabout. Since she was well aware that plans often changed because of the unexpected, she chalked it up to that. Jo's part of the plan was to open a comm channel and hail the occupants of the station. After Matrix left, James got up from his station and took over as pilot. "Ambassador, I've run a comm channel through the back up station, so you can make your call from there," said Allen. "Thank you," said Jo as she sat down. She had used Starfleet comm systems many times, but the configuration of the console was unfamiliar to her. After a few moments of studying, she figured it out and was ready to send the hail. Taking a deep breath, she tapped it and opened the channel, sending a signal directly to the station. "This is Ambassador Joanne Turner of the United Federation of Planets. We are here in peace and friendship, seeking to retrieve our comrades and to open relations with you. May I speak with your representative?" Inside the runabout, it became eerily quiet. James and Allen were in the front seats, monitoring the station. Jo found that she had been holding her breath. After about thirty seconds of silence, she repeated her greeting. While waiting, Jo's heart began to pound, which surprised her. She had been doing this for over twenty years, and the nervousness was long gone. She wasn't sure why this time was different. "Are the comm signals getting through?" said Jo. "Yes, ma'am," said Allen. "They're just not responding." This wasn't entirely unexpected. Whoever these people were, they had, after all, taken telepathic control of a Starfleet engineer, kidnapped the crew, then took two officers from the Rosenante. It was obvious they cared more about doing what they wanted, rather than talking. "I'll try again." Jo sent her greeting for the third time, but after several moments, there was nothing. She knew failing to make the initial contact wasn't her fault, but because so many lives were at stake, she felt guilty nonetheless. "Nothing from the station," said Allen. Jo started drumming her fingers on the console. She wanted to call again, but she knew it would be to no avail. "At least they haven't fired on us." "They still can," said James. Jo chuckled. He was right, of course. Ah, well. The people on the station weren't answering, so she hoped the Starfleet people had found a way to sneak on board. (reply none) (posted by Bob) ----- (Alien Station, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 1942) The duct plating was a material Tho'var had never seen before. Touching it with his finger, it seemed a light but very solid alloy. With only his bare hands as weapons, it was clear there was no way to cut a way through it. ~Maybe I could get the long piece of alloy I saw in the other room. It might be solid enough to pierce the plating.~ he thought. But as soon as he thought of the idea, he remembered all the 'S' and narrow duct he had to crawl into. The piece of alloy was way too long for him to get any chance to bring it here. It would get stuck way before... In fact, he didn't even think he could get it through the duct in the first place, as the duct was parallel to the room. The 90 degrees angle was just making it impossible to move them out of the room. While he was thinking on another solution, he felt the presence of Sanok. He was moving or being moved. As he had no option, for the moment, to escape, the only way to survive was to head back to the cell before they returned him. Tho'var hurried to its cell....crawling like a mouse running from a snake. He might not get there on time. (Reply no one) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Alien Station, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 1944) Never of his life has Tho'var crawled so fast. Even in a jefferie tube about to be fill with a plasma explosion, has he ever had to move so quickly. He had always been more of the careful type, and therefore rarely was he put in a situation where his whole future would be determined by how fast he would run. During that Plasma explosion, he had saw it coming and had more than enough second to crawl out of the tube before the explosion caught on him. This time however, he was brought out of his comfort zone by his superior. Sanok expressed the need to find an escape, and Tho'var obeyed. But in this duct, trying to flee for his life....and then to walk back into it because being caught would be even worst.... that was way out of his "safety margin". His "safety margin" wasn't a probability over 50% or several minutes to flee in case "things would go bad", but simply a capacity to run faster than the enemy. Considering how bad a runner he was, he would be better calling it the "suicide margin". Surprisingly enough, when facing death, he seemed to be a much greater competitor than he thought. From what he could feel via his telepathic ability, Sanok was still in the elevator, which would give Tho'var just enough time to jump back to his cell and hide the duct opening as if nothing had happened. Arriving at his cell, he reached both side of the duct with his two hands to lift his own weight, and reached his uniform with his third hand... ~Wait....this doesn't seem right.~ The next thing he saw was how much dirt there was on the floor. As so close a distance, even his blurred vision had no problem differentiating every grain of dust on it. Strangely, the grains had different colors, probably revealing a lot about how many people where brought into the cells without much time to take a shower... Certainly had he been the only lucky one to actually be pulled here right after a shower..... not like it matter really. After all, with all the dirt on the floor, Tho'var could really use a pair of shoes. The kidnappers certainly concluded Tho'var had got enough time to study the dust, because they pulled him back on his feet. Actually that wasn't true. Tho'var missed about 2 inches to reach the floor with his feet... After having been bent on himself like a foetus for hours... he could now felt the artificial gravity tearing him down by his own weight, only to be kept floating at 2 inches of the floor by the two tall people who, by their size, were probably two guards. Tho'var took a long look at Sanok when they crossed by. He seemed in far worst shape than he did. For someone as alert and conscious as a Vulcan could be, Tho'var started to fear what was going to be on the other side. Considering that Vulcan were much more resistant to suffering and torture than any Andorian or Aenar could be, he just hoped he would be up to resist. Strangely, for the first time in his life, Tho'var saw something positive of the long days tortured on one of Donos ship while he apprehended the death of his own race. At least, he could never ever come close to such an extreme suffering again. So there was indeed hope he could resist. (Reply no one) (Posted by Nick) 00000 (Alien Station, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 1949) Tho'var was brought inside a dark but large enough room. In the center of it, there was a chair but not the typical chair you would expect. Despite there were some familiarity with a small ship bridge, the modification brought to the room, and the chair, revealed it was not used for commanding the station. The guards installed Tho'var on the chair, certainly not because they wanted him to become their new CO. Rather, restraints were installed so there would be no way for Tho'var to resist...not that he had the intention to. He was an engineer, not a security officer. He had neither the strength, nor the shape to fight. He would have better luck with sabotage, not that he had right now any chance to do some. Tho'var examined the chair. The modification brought to it were definitely not for fashion. The cables and relays were all visible. It didn't took long for him to figure out which was powering the chair, which was providing the command and which was probably used to provide the substance necessary for the interrogation. However, there was nothing, as of yet, Tho'var could do about it as the opportunity never presented itself for him to sabotage it. But he had collected enough visual data to be able to sabotage whenever he had the chance. One of the guard activated the chair. Tho'var could slowly felt its effect. His specie blurred vision soon became fully blurred. Despite his best efforts at orientating himself, his antennas were unable to compensate for the dizziness he started to feel. The feeling was very similar to the one he felt during the torture by Donos' men. He had learned a few tricks to avoid mind manipulation. Despite Aenar were normally very subjective to mind manipulation, with this few ticks, he could be successful at preventing them to get anything. He needed to close his mind. But it was difficult. His body certainly reacted to the frequency that was affecting his brain. His metabolism started to accelerate. "What are your specie?" started to ask the guard wearing a robe. But Tho'var was clearly not there anymore. With his dizziness and his blurred vision, it was if there was no outside word. His reality was limited to the confines of his own brain. "Where does your specie live?" asked the guard. But Tho'var did not answered. (Reply no one) (Posted by Nick) ----- (USS Ticonderoga - Science Officer - Ensign (JG) Andrew Maddox - 1950) Andrew finished up the last of his suit checks. He attached his tricorder and phaser to the outside of his suit. He didn't like the idea of needing his tricorder or worse yet his phaser and have it stuck in his suit. He stepped into his boots one at a time. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, he was nervous. He didn't like Zero-G operations and to add to it, it was Zero-G operations from a runabout onto an alien station that could quite possibly wish them harm. All the preparations finished he took one last deep breath and put his helmet on, it clicked into place and he heard the hiss of the internal air system kicking in. His tricorder and phaser already secured to the exterior of his suit, Andrew stood up, picked up an engineering kit and his carrying tray of six canisters with nanites frozen in liquid neon. Each canister could deploy its contents singly or in any combination in pairs, triples or all at once. Once opened, the liquid neon evaporates thawing the nanites and activating them. He walked into the air lock with the rest of the crew, all in space suits, and the air lock doors shut behind them. In mere moments the small almost closet-like room was void of air. Another officer, Andrew didn't see who, activated the door release once they got the 'green light'. Andrew filed out with the crew, not taking lead and not bringing up the tail-end. Once he stepped outside and on to the hull of the runabout he noticed an absolute silence, even the slight hum of the oxygen scrubber seemed to drift away. He felt the vibration of each foot hitting the hull of the Star Fleet vessel. The magnetic boots gave him a feeling of the hull being sticky. Andrew couldn't grab the safety line as both of his hands were full, so he was secured to it with a locking carabineer and a 10 centimeter tether. Andrew thought as they walked toward the alien station, ~How are we getting in?~ He concluded that if the race that built the station was anything like the races of the Alpha quadrant and basically most races that Humans have come in contact, that they would need some kind of gas exchange for respiration, and so if they used explosives to enter the station the hull breach alarm would go off announcing their presence. ~Hopefully they will find a manual release airlock.~ Maddox looked 'up'. He looked at the stars overhead, the patterns were not at all familiar. He did notice several clusters that could have been used to make various simplistic patterns common in constellations from emerging societies. He noticed a few larger stellar bodies that could have been galaxies, but without a familiar frame of reference or at least a 20 x magnification there was no way to be sure. By now they had arrived at what looked like a maintenance hatch, or a docking port, depending on how large these beings were. With the hull of the ship blocking scans it would also block any means of opening it from the outside unless there was some kind of receiving dish, antennae or port. Andrew spotted a semi-smooth bump at the ventral portion of the rim of the hatch. ~Maybe that's it?~ He thought. He began scanning it with his tricorder, and unlike the majority of the station he could actually get a reading from it. "This looks like the key pad to the lock, but it doesn't seem to have any touch interface." Maddox said over the comms to no one in particular. "I'm going to start a code cracking program. Hopefully they won't notice it opening if we actually do get it open." With-in a few moments the door slid to one side and all the atmosphere in the lock blew out into space forming ice crystals with the moisture in the air instantly. Andrew didn't know if it was blind luck or if the station's occupants just let them in but someone wasn't going to waste the opportunity and whoever decided to jump, did and the rest of the away team followed hastily before their windfall decided to close. (Reply none required) (Posted by Todd) ----- (Alien Station - Ensign (jg) Ailyn Andersen ACMO - Day 1 - 1951) Ailyn was the first to get onto the station. She couldn't really muster going the last and watching everyone in front of her doing it before. Although she was sure no one would know, she did it with her closed eyes. Luckily, it all went out fine. The hatch was about her size and she had no problems fitting and getting inside. Stopping inside the hatch, she turned around and got ready to catch the second person to go after her. Several moments and the crew of the runabout got together on this side and all got inside. Andersen looked around for any signs of known technology to her. The console that stood at about the high of her head, had unknown symbols on it. The green backlight illuminated a part of the corridor they were in. She didn't want to press anything, in fear the inhabitants would know they were here. Hearing some kind of pressurized air, she started turning around and checking if her suit got punctured somewhere. With the glimpse of her eye, she saw Ensign Gomez picking up his tricorder and doing a reading of something. "Hey Doc. Air looks like it's breathable, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and trace elements appear to be in tolerable concentrations." he explained. For a second it seemed her was all too positive to be right. Not that Ailyn would place a bet. Not like she was interested in betting. That was behind her. "Uh..." she started, quickly checking her tricorder - as if she forgot she had it. "Yep, you're right, it's completely breathable. The pressure is a bit higher then the standard, but it's safe. How lucky for us." she explained with a monotone voice. She was quick to remove her helmet and to actually figure out the air sound is coming from somewhere deeper down the corridor. Her suit is fine. Being left-handed, she took the phaser out of her belt with her left hand and took the tricorder into her right. The tricorder was set to scan for pretty much anything - power fields, radiation, composition of walls - she had it record so that she can further analyze it later. This was a perfect moment to get a glimpse into alien technology - and perhaps find something that could, in the end, help her with her research. While a perfect opportunity comes with the danger, she really wanted to seize the moment. Naturally, the corridors were made from an unknown material, and the tricorder couldn't get through them at all. The walls looked cold, clinical and everything but shiny. There weren't many lights, aside the occasional dimmed small reflector every dozen feet or so. The walls looked like they could tell a story of their own. The walking eventually came to a stop on the intersection. "Where are we heading first." Gomez asked. The long section would continue forward but they could just as well turn either left or right. All the corridors looked pretty much the same to Andersen, and without the ability to scan beyond the walls, she couldn't even take a guess where they are at the moment. The fact they walked for a while and haven't had a proper welcome from the hosts was very weird to her. She expected the inhabitants of the station would already know about them. She was sure the hatch they opened must have been registered, at least by the station's computer. Judging by the hum and the constant omnipresent noise she would hear getting stronger while walking towards the inter section, she wondered what was forward. What seemed so un usual was the fact by the sound, the power was getting to somewhere in front of them, not from. Logical design of most of the known stations was that they had their powerplants in the middle of the structure - but the reactor would send the power, not require it. This didn't make any sense. Perhaps they shouldn't really go forward. "Maybe we should split into two smaller teams to cover larger area. We could keep in contact every several minutes." she stopped to get some air. She said it really fast, pointing to both directions with her fingers. She purposely only showed left or right. This seemed the only feasible action. If they didn't have the possibility of additional data about the station and the area design, the only way to cover the large area was to split and hope for a streak of luck. If she could only think of a way to scan further then just walls - but she didn't have any tricks of this kind in her sleeve. (Reply: Any) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (Alien Station - Ensign Heath Gomez- Day 1 - 2000) Heath waited for his turn to enter the station, the hatch was a tight squeeze but everyone seemed to have made it through no worse for wear. He pulled a tricorder and began scanning, his readings showed that the atmosphere inside the station was breathable as far as he was concerned but he waited for the Doc to give the go ahead. "Hey Doc." Heath said. "Air looks like it's breathable, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and trace elements appear to be in tolerable concentrations." (reply Anderson) After the Anderson agreed Heath wasted no time getting out of the EV suit and began picking up his discarded phaser rifle. Under his suit his tactical belt was becoming uncomfortable, it contained a hand phaser, spare power cells, charges, photon grenades, knife, wrist beacon and an extra tricorder programmed with arming codes and detonation protocols. The immediate area wasn't brightly lit, it was completely dark but he removed his beacon and activated to shed more light. The walls were plain and non reflective. He moved further into the section but didn't stray far from the others, if someone was looking for them Heath wanted to give the others as much of a warning as he could. He listened for a moment, he could hear the hum of power as it flowed past behind the wall and through the floor, in the distance he could hear the beeping of panels which he assumed was for monitoring power flow or something similar. Turning back to the others he said. "Where are we heading first." (reply any present) (posted by Milo Young) ----- (Alien Station, FO/CSec Lieutenant Commander Sanok, Day 1, 2001) Sanok sat up and looked around. He was back in the original cell in which he and Kevras had been kept by their captors, and he was lying on one of the cots. He wasn't sure how he got on the cot, as he had been dumped onto the floor by the guards. He must have climbed onto the softer bed, but he had no memory of doing it. Sanok swung his legs to the side and stood up slowly. He was still a bit weak, though more mentally drained than physically. While he was processing what the aliens had done to him, he moved to the wall where the door had opened. Examining it, he could still not find any seams. Shaking his head, he wondered at the level of technology of this place. With a sigh, he returned to his cot and sat down. Closing his eyes, he concentrated on his experience in the chair, It was logical to assume that the chair was some sort of mind probe device. It was initially confusing, but because there was no way Klagth could have been there, Sanok had been able to regain control over himself. Whoever these people were, they had an obsession with telepathic races. They had been able to control the engineer on the Tesla. They had specifically chosen Kevras and himself, two beings with telepathic abilities, to kidnap. They had put Sanok in the chair, and presumably had Kevras there now. They were now asking where telepathic races were located within the Federation. Was that why the Tesla captain had locked out the computer on his ship? Were these beings trying to find telepathic races? It was the logical conclusion. Now, what was the purpose in finding the telepaths? When Sanok had first encountered Lieutenant Torell on the Tesla, Torell had shown hatred for Sanok. He had followed that by physically attacking him. Was this hatred a projection from those controlling Torell? Again, it was a logical conclusion. Whoever these people were, they hated telepaths, but why? Mistrust? Invasions of privacy? Paranoia? Sanok would need more information. Still lingering in his mind, Sanok could see images in his mind, though he could not make out any of them. It was like something barely within his peripheral vision. He saw something, but it was unclear. Since he wasn't going anywhere at the moment. he took a deep breath and prepared himself for deep meditation. As he entered he moved to his left against the wall and took up point and started to visually scan the area. Matrix looked around as best he could given the reduced visibility of his EV headgear and lack of illumination aboard the station. The doc gave the thumbs up on the atmosphere aboard the station and he joined the others and started to remove is EV suit. Matrix put down his phaser rifle and grabbed his helmet with both hands and twisted it slightly to the left. The hiss of the escaping oxygen mixture from inside his suit rushed past his face and mixed with the stations air. Matrix took two deep breaths, noticing the smell of the station. Sort of a musty aroma filled the area. Within a few minutes Matrix had shed his EV suit entirely and packed it neatly onto the floor where they entered. He opened up his away pack and placed it over his shoulders and activated the harness light, one on either side of the chest straps. The illumination helped detail the area and he made is way up to the front of the group. "Where are we heading first." Asked Gomez. "Good question.where these halls take us for now." He had taken the precaution of loading his friends biometric data before the mission started. The tri-corders were showing multiple beings but anything distinct wasn’t showing up. This caused his team to move slowly and carefully. Tom had careful mapping performed as to where they were stating from in case they had to make a hasty retreat. Tom’s mind was operating in two parts – one was the current mission and the other was a remembering the Grissom mission. He forced those grim memories from his mind and focused on the mission at hand. He made himself a promise to see the ship’s counselor when things were settled. The other team members were scanning and saving data on the station in case it was needed in the future. The technology was very alien – Tom wondered what secrets they’d uncover? Time would tell he guessed. “Ensign Gomez – Lt Jackson here. Uncover anything” he asked the younger man. (Reply: Gomez) Tom listened as Heath replied. (Reply: Any) (Posted by: Bill West) ----- (Alien Station -- LCDR Steven Matrix – Day 1 2004) Matrix continued scanning while moving slowly forward with the rest of the away team. As he caught glimpses of the alien ship he tried to theorize what the apparent technology was used for. Nothing had an obvious function and his scans were not uncovering anything other than material content and no obvious power sources in the area. After a few moments Matrix noticed he was had a slight headache, but ignored it and tried to concentrate on the mission. He moved up to where Tom Jackson was. "Anything?" asked Matrix (Reply Jackson) "I'm not getting much information from my tricorder...just composite information on the material content of this area. I can't even define a power source in all of this equipment." Replied Matrix (Reply Jackson, IYW) "I'll increase the scanning bandwidth pattern and see if that helps any." Said Matrix (Reply Jackson, any) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Alien Station, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 2005) That had been a strange sensation. For he didn't know how long, the images in his mind has been a reflection of himself....echoing through an immense white background. Everything he thought happened and happened again. It wasn't making any sense. He was also hearing background noise, he could barely hear. It wasn't his. He couldn't understand what it was saying....but it felt nevertheless as if it made sense. Desires surfaced that he hadn't call for. He did not know if he had to resist or not. He couldn't even know what those desires were, but he knew he wanted to do some things. Slowly, he started to be unsettled...preoccupied. As if his schedule was filling up with so many task to attend. He knew all those tasks and at the same time could not see or think of any of them. It was like in a dream in which you were with your best friend, having the best of time, to finally wake up and realized there was no one you knew that looked even close to the person in your dream. Still, in that dream, you seemed to know him perfectly. It was the same strange things he was feeling right now, except he couldn't tell if he was dreaming or if it was reality.....if there was a difference at all between the two. His thought brought him back to a blurred face...a face he could see from far. It seemed to look at him. But his lips wasn't moving. He seemed preoccupied... his eyes were empty. There was not bit of a reaction he could glare from his eyes. He wondered if that person could even see. After a time, the face become clearer...it was his. He was looking at the same mirror as before....seeing himself, still as an echo... over and over again. (Reply no one) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Alien Station - Ensign (jg) Ailyn Andersen ACMO - Day 1 - 2006) After the split-up, Andersen got Gomez as a partner. They took the longer route that was heading towards the left of the airlock. The narrow passageway felt a bit confusing and it was actually easy to get lost on the station. With the high ceiling, and very little lights, the perception was that the inner passage ways of the station are enormous, despite the fact they were getting narrower. The arch of the ceiling, part that would often house an dimmed light of some kind, was shaped as a sharp teardrop. Andersen never saw this architecture, perhaps the closest to the ones she knew were the old romulan ruins, but this seemed different enough that it couldn't be of romulan origin. Moreover, the walls felt almost rustic, as if they're monolithic. The further they would go, the more louder was the sound that, as Andersen would choose the words, reminded of a growl of a giant machine. It was pretty obvious they were headed to a direction where something was happening. Doubling her steps, she came over the corner - Gomez was still behind, she pointed her head from the side of the corner just enough that she could see what's on the other side of it. Ailyn could see open doors, and could hear some voices, but the machine was too loud and she couldn't understand any of the words - or in fact in what language were they talking in. As the duo came closer to the doors, step by step, the loud noise from whatever the machine was, stopped, and Andersen could hear loud footsteps - heavy walk and boots that were, according to the sound they were producing, made of some kind of metallic alloy. The sound was further amplified by the nature of the station, there were simply no artificial fabrics on the floors that would dampen the loud noises anywhere on the station. By the reverbation of the sounds, Ailyn could guess there were more then just one. Andersen could almost hear them coming closer... and closer... Pulling Gomez by the shoulders fast to the other side of the corner, she whispered "sorry", putting her finger across her mouths, "shh" she whispered again, moving her head slowly inch by inch through the corner, and showing with a movement of her head to Gomez why did she do what she did. While she was sure Gomez could take several of them himself, she was also sure he had a poor side-kick. She was sure it would end pretty fatal - or painful for them, so she did what she was best at - avoiding the hostility altogether. On the other side were about a dozen unknown soldiers, or what appeared to be soldiers - walking together towards the other side of the corridor. They were all armed, however they were lightly armored with some fortified patches on a much lighter fabric suit they wore on themselves with the cap or perhaps an tight hood on their heads. Ailyn moved with light and silent steps eloquently towards the entrance to the room, slowly peeking from the nearer side of the doors inside for just a second. Turning towards Gomez, she nodded her head. She didn't need to tell anything more to the Ensign. (Reply: Gomez) "I'll watch your back" she whispered "there's no one inside as far as I can see, but there's atleast three more rooms connected to that one" she explained pointing to the room infront of the duo with her head. It would seem Ensign Gomez would bravely take the charge and check if the rooms were empty. She headed in second, watching both left and right before she got in. The station was obviously full of surprises - in front of Andersen, there was a long and big chair - resembling of the old Starfleet Constitution-class standard issue chair. Although instead of the swivel, it had four metal legs clearly bolted to the floor. Andersen quickly brought her attention towards the device, and her gaze stopped on the headrest coming from up the back. The headrest had two glass-like rods on either of its sides. An educated guess was the system was used for some kind of mind data-mining or similar techniques. Ailyn had a flash of memories... of times she never wanted to remember. Of faces she owed a lot, but never wanted to see again... and of a familiar... and similar, human made chair. An thought flashed through Andersen mind, looking at the chair, thinking how much more efficient this one must be. Ailyn knew that the two chairs were similar enough and this was in fact a reason she thought she knew exactly why would someone use such a piece of technology... it wasn't good news, though. "This is some kind of data-gathering and torture device..." she said, not looking forward towards Gomez but instead fixating her look upon each and every part of the elaborate system. Picking her tricorder up from her belt, she activated several scans in an attempt to gather as much data as possible about the chair. But what caught her attention the most was the small drop of blood on the chair - at the part where head is usually situated. She knew not if someone was tortured or mainly deep-scanned against their will - in which case the blood was possibility as the brain would fight, the nose would often bleed. Being an doctor with knowledge about these things, she knew that all too well. Putting in the new commands with her long fingers on her tricorder, she moved the device closer to the blood piece. (Reply: Gomez) "Good idea. Comparing it to all the crew members on our records." she said. However what she found out struck her as an lightning. She could see Gomez was interested in finding out what the tricorder was saying as well. Her interested poked as well. She raised her left eyebrow moving her eyes across the scan percentage meter coming from the left and heading towards the right. It felt as all the time stood up and waited for that results to finish. Eventually, after several seconds it was done. "Blood... It belongs to Ensign Powell of the USS Tesla..." she said and looked towards Gomez in amazement. "This is more then just an indication that they were here, it's likely possible they're still here against their will." she explained while shaking her head. These were not good news at all. As the fate would want it, it would seem for at least a moment they had to save more then just two of their officers. Ailyn stopped to get some breath, moving her right hand through her hair. Her hair was still messy from the EV suit. She looked towards Gomez, opening her mouths and trying to say something when they were broken by a commlink. It was Jackson calling Gomez. ~Perfect timing.~ she thought. Gomez started explaining what was happening to Jackson. (Reply: Gomez, Jackson) Hitting her commbadge, she wanted to give the heads up to Jackson about the chair they found so she added herself to the conversation. "We have found an chair that we do not have the clear knowledge of it's function. We found a small drop of blood belonging to one of the officers of the... USS Tesla, sir." she further explained, almost stopping before saying the name of the vessel. (Reply: Gomez) "Ensign Gomez is right, this doesn't necessarily need to mean the Tesla crew are hurt, but it is obvious that whoever we're dealing with here got them all with a clear intention, planned reason and prejudice." she explained coldly. (Reply: Gomez) Ailyn waited patiently for Gomez to explain their earlier near-contact with the patrol. But she also understood that it won't be easy avoiding the contact forever - she was sure that next time they wouldn't get it as easily as they did this. (Reply: Jackson) "Yes, sir, we didn't engage the enemy. We were heavily outnumbered. I made a decision at the heat of the moment, and I'm still certain it was the right one to make. What are our further commands, sir?" she asked Jackson, completely sure she did a good call this time - despite being seen as a cowardice - surviving to help their missing officers and perhaps even the crew of the ill-fated USS Tesla took precedence over playing the hero. Besides, she was perfectly sure this wouldn't be the only close encounter with the species living onboard the station. That left Jo on the Cousteau, with Allen and James. Allen went over first, but it was decided that Jo would go next, with James following close behind her in case anything went wrong. Jo had been EVA certified years ago, and she had requalified a few times since, but each time was in a holodeck. This was the first time she would actually be in space, and she was visibly nervous. "There's no need to worry, ma'am," said James. "Do everything you were trained to do, and you'll be fine. It's just like being in a holodeck." "Says you," said Jo. James chuckled. "I've done both real space and a holodeck, and it really is the same. The holodecks do an amazing job of simulating real space." "Except you can't die from an explosive decompression in a holodeck," said Jo. Her throat was very dry. "You'll be fine. I'll be right behind you. These suits are the best that can be made. Hardly anything ever goes wrong." James smiled. Jo snorted. Hardly ever, indeed. The word came over the comm system that Allen had made it, so it was now Jo's turn. She couldn't believe how hard her heart was pounding. She was certain James could hear it. Taking a deep breath, Jo put on her helmet and turned it until it locked into place. "Your suit checks out," said James. "You're good to go. Have a nice trip." If she survived, Jo was going to punch Petty Officer Mike James. With a final glare, Jo turned away and exited the runabout. Though there was a safety line, and the EVA suits had a small propulsion unit, Jo still felt like she was going to float away and be pulled into the wormhole, only to be ripped into a million pieces. =^=You need to get moving, ma'am.=^= said James through the comm system in the suit. To Jo's surprise, both her hands were clamped like a vise on the safety line. She had moved only a few meters from the Cousteau. "Um, yeah. Yes. Okay, Mister James." Jo closed her eyes and forced herself to breath normally. She knew she couldn't in such a short time, but she didn't want to use up all her oxygen. When she was ready, Jo began pulling herself along the line. Moving only a few feet at a time, she locked her eyes on the hatch that was her destination. =^=You're doing fine, Ambassador. Just keep going and you'll be across in no time.=^= Pull. Move a few feet. Pull. Move another few feet. Look at the hatch. Pull. =^=There you go!=^= Jo had made it. She was in the hatch and soon she'd be on the station. Closing her eyes, she smiled and gave thanks. It had tried to make it look at something else....but Tho'var didn't wanted to. He looked at the mirror. It was a more comfortable view. He had no curiosity for the new....he preferred to look at himself. There was maybe something different that he could detect in his mirror image. Since, the voice had finally dissipated....and the background....the white wasn't so white anymore. But Tho'var did not really cared. He had still no reason to look elsewhere. Why would he look away from his self image. For a moment, he felt something. He felt like for the first time, part of what happened in his dream not only made sense....but he could come very close to perceive in his mind. As if, for the first time, he wasn't only knowing....but consciously knowing. Looking at his self-image...he didn't seem to get it. There was hope.....he had an advantage over his mirror image or his shadow....something he knew his self-image didn't knew. But he couldn't figure out yet what it was. He started to hear another voice. That voice wasn't as nice as the one he had heard before. Rather than having desires...if find it disrupting. He couldn't think straight. The voice seemed almost mechanical...all balanced....all serious... but unpleasant. Then it started to become louder...and louder. It wasn't just voice....he could feel also sensation through something exterior that nevertheless seemed to be part of him. It almost hurt.....bringing quite a discomfort. Though so far they could have made as much noise as they wanted and no one would have been any wiser. So far they hadn't come across a single patrol or even a sentry. With all the advanced tech on this station he would have thought they would have posted guards in the more sensitive areas of the station. He wasn't certain what most of the panels or equipment did but had this been the Rose at least two SO's would have been stationed to keep an eye on things. He was beginning to wonder if there was anyone on the station or if the whole thing was automated. His combadge chimed catching his attention. =/\=Ensign Gomez – Lt Jackson here. Uncover anything=/\= he asked the younger man. "Nothing so far Lieutenant." Heath replied. "Which concerns me, we should have come across at least one patrol or even a sentry by now but nothing. I'm beginning to wonder if this station is inhabited and if our people are even here." Heath continued moving ahead and looking around. "If we find anything we'll let you know." Heath said. "Gomez out." Heath continued on down the corridor behind Anderson, she stood at a corner and glanced around. Heath caught up to her and was about to ask if she saw anything when she grabbed him and pulled him against the wall. she whispered "sorry", putting her finger across her mouths, "shh" she whispered again, moving her head slowly inch by inch through the corner, and showing with a movement of her head to Gomez why did she do what she did. Heath listened and then caught the voices, nodding to Anderson to acknowledge he understood. He estimated there were several people inside the room which he could easily handle but doing so would place the Doctor in danger so he remained at her side. Then a dozen soldiers came out of the room, soldiers may have been overestimating what they actually were. He could see no real armor but then that didn't mean anything, their movements were a bit clumsy but that could simply be due to complacency or lack of training. They were, however, armed. They proceed on, not even bothering to check the area before moving on. Once they had left and sufficient time and distance had been put between them Anderson moved out giving the all clear and he followed, it was a bit of a role reversal but he didn't say anything. Heath moved to take the lead, Anderson said she would watch his back and as far as she could tell there was no one inside. He moved to the door and glanced in quickly, when he wasn't fired on he cautiously stepped out for a better view, the room appeared empty and he slowly stepped inside phaser rifle at the ready. He gave the room a quick survey and saw no one, the room was clear so he waved Anderson in but for the moment keep ahead of her never dropping his weapon. "This is some kind of data-gathering and torture device..." she said. Heath didn't like the sound of that, though he had to admit she was likely right in her assumption as he looked at the chairs in the room. He didn't what to know how it worked and hoped no one from either the Rose or the Tesla had been on the receiving end of that device. On one of the chairs Heath saw a shiny liquid and he doubted it was a lubricant, he moved closer as Anderson began to scan it. It appeared to be blood. "Doc," Heath said. "tell me that isn't what I think it is. If it is cross reference your findings with bio records from the Rosenante and the Tesla, maybe we'll get lucky. "Good idea. Comparing it to all the crew members on our records." she said. Heath was interested in what she would find and concerned as to why that had found blood. "Blood... It belongs to Ensign Powell of the USS Tesla..." she said and looked towards Gomez in amazement. "This is more then just an indication that they were here,it's likely possible they're still here against their will." she explained while shaking her head. Heath was about to speak when his combadge chimed again. Once again Lieutenant Jackson's voice came out, perfect timing or was the man clairvoyant? "Lieutenant we've found a room containing what we believe to be some kind of torture device." Heath stated. "We have found an chair that we do not have the clear knowledge of it's function. We found a small drop of blood belonging to one of the officers of the... USS Tesla, sir." she further explained. "It's Ensign Powell's blood Sir." Heath continued. "There isn't much here and so I believe the Ensign is still alive so the others may also be here and alive." "Ensign Gomez is right, this doesn't necessarily need to mean the Tesla crew are hurt, but it is obvious that whoever we're dealing with here got them all with a clear intention, planned reason and prejudice." she explained coldly. "We noticed a dozen people leaving this rooms just minutes ago Lieutenant." Heath explained. "They didn't appear highly organized but they were armed, if that party was an indication of the total number of hostiles present we may be dealing with a large number of people Sir. If they have similar patrols in other parts of the station with equal numbers they may be over a thousand potential hostiles here." (reply Jackson) "Yes, sir, we didn't engage the enemy. We were heavily outnumbered. I made a decision at the heat of the moment, and I'm still certain it was the right one to make. What our further commands, sir?"Anderson inquired. Heath didn't like sneaking around but he also knew he couldn't handle a dozen armed combatants on his own, laying low had kept them alive for now. "I suspect as we move deeper we'll encounter more resistance and engagement may become necessary Sir." Heath stated. "We're going to have to keep our heads on a swivel." He was beginning to see the aliens that captured him and Kevras, but they were on a planet. He thought he was seeing a city, but he wasn't certain. What was odd, was the people were looking upwards at a great object descending towards them. Sanok was trying to focus on this object, but a loud click to his left broke his concentration. He opened his eyes and looked. The door had appeared again in the wall, and the guards were bringing the limp body of Kevras back to the cell. They dropped him onto the floor and carefully backed out of the room, the door closing and the seams disappearing. Sanok got up and knelt next to Kevras. The engineer's eyes were closed and his lips were moving, but his voice was barely a whisper. Sanok picked him up and set him carefully onto one of the cots. Sanok then sat on his cot, facing Kevras. "Lieutenant Kevras, do you hear me?" There was no reaction. "Lieutenant Kevras." This time, Sanok's voice was more firm. "Lieutenant Kevras!" Kevras stopped talking to himself and began to move. It seemed Sanok was beginning to reach him. "Lieutenant Kevras." Sanok placed a hand on Kevras' arm and shook him gently. "Lieutenant!" Another shake, this one more firm. Jo glanced at Allen and James to see what they would do, but they were occupied with keeping an eye on their position. If only he could understand what he was trying to do, he wouldn't be doing what he was doing now. Being focused, that was the most difficult part. Aenar did not have the mind control of Vulcans. They were far more subjective to such probing. But if they avoided any temptation, any voice, any desire and just focused on the image they had on their mind, it was possible to resist. Tho'var learned that years ago. How could he talk to Sanok without losing his strong focus. He knew if he went back to reality, the mental shell he had created would be gone. But, he didn't wanted his commander to believe he had become a fool or madman. After a second, he found just the way to do it. Tho'var started to speak telepathically ::: "I hear you sir. But I can't talk. I most keep focused for the next session."::: he said.however unsure he had not done more than projecting his words. The probing had affected his mental abilities, and he did not had as much control. It was possible Tho'var also projected that same mirror image along with the words into Sanok's mind. Tho'var continued to focus on the mirror. It was very important he kept thinking about it. If the enemy knew he had the ability, if helped technologically, to detect and reach people mind light years away, he could become a weapon for them. The history was well known among the Aenar : the history of Gareb, abducted by a unknown specie and who was used by them to control a ship light years away. That had always been the fear of his people ever since....Tho'var could not ignore that. If he did abstraction of everything, they would not know. That was is goal. Suddenly he started to feel a presence not far. It seemed human..Yes, he could feel it, they were there. ::: "Sir, the Rosenante has arrived. They are not far from us. ":::. Tho'var said telepathically. (reply Sanok) He could lead them right to their cell. That was an easy trick. However, he was reluctant to do it. The Aenar culture forbid to use their telepathic ability on people who haven't formally agreed to it. He hadn't asked the permission. But if he didn't, they might not be rescued. The Rosenante away team could go in the opposite direction. The telepathic was very week. There were no telepath, which considerably weakened the range of Tho'var telepathic ability. The closest was Ensign Andersen. Tho'var reflected on his own image, so that she could see him as if he was real. ::: Ensign Andersen.:: Tho'.var stopped. The message actually reached no one. His hesitation was enough to prevent him from succeeding. At that range, he had needed all his concentration and strength. But doubts was enough to prevent such concentration. ~And if the enemy is between here and them. I could lead them to a trap.~ Tho'var thought. After consideration, he didn't liked at all that the away team was actually risking their life to save them. He hated bloodshed. But he couldn't see how there wouldn't be any guard around. Even if he didn't liked them, he could resolve to accept their death. That was against his culture. Tho'var was divided between his Andorian sense of vengeance, as well as his experience as a starfleet offcier, and his Aenar culture. The Aenar were pacifist and they were almost instinct following the attack on Andor. But Andorian have been warriors and there were not in better shape. He did not know what to do....which insight to chose. "I also hear you, Mister Kevras. Since our shipmates are here to rescue us, we will make a move to escape when our captors come for us again. The two of them had been watching Lt. Torell, the engineer from the Tesla, for over six hours, with only short bathroom breaks. What are you waiting for?" said Phil, wrinkling his face. "She isn't going to wait forever for you to work up your courage." "My courage is just fine. I don't want to rush." "The glaciers moved faster than you." Phil laughed. David extended a finger at Phil. Phil's eyes widened and he let out a hearty laugh. "Okay, pal, but she's hot and you're missing out." David fell silent and began pacing again. He supposed Phil was right. Donna was beautiful, and she did seem to be interested. So what was taking him so long to make a move? "Maybe you need more confidence in yourself." David froze and Phil gasped. Looking at the cell, they saw Lt. Torell standing there looking at them. It was he that spoke about David's confidence. Searching without additional navigational aid, either a general direction to go or schematics or deck plans would be aimless wandering and not a efficient use of our time. Not to mention that the longer we are here the chances of us being discovered or detected grow exponentially. In addition the fact that the sensors can't penetrate the hull would lead me to believe that communication would not be able to go between decks, so we will have to find a way to augment that." Once I've interfaced with the computer then it becomes an issue of translation, once that is accomplished I can probably pull up a deck plan or systems schematics and if they hadn't detected me by that point I could probably set up a relay to piggy-back our communications with theirs allowing us to communicate undetected." (Reply: Gomez) He then asked Andersen if she uncovered anything more about the chair and the blood they found on it. "Well, we did find Ensign Powell's blood on the chair. What's more disturbing is the fact the chair was obviously designed to be able to control, to a certain extent, brain waves, and if need be could create immense pains at the individual on it." she said moving her arm in air while trying to explain. "On top of my head, I'd have to say it could be used both as an brain data mining tool and as an torture device. I surely wouldn't wanna be tied into that chair." she explained, pointing out to the chair in front of them. She then looked at Gomez and then back to Jackson, continuing in a lower voice, as if she was afraid someone to hear her. "It seems likely to me if someone from the Tesla was on it, that more then likely our missing officers could have ended up on it as well. I haven't found traces to confirm this however, but that's very high possibility." Ailyn added looking at Jackson. The man seemed almost furious at the words spoken. He asked Gomez for his thoughts on this. (Reply: Gomez) "Dr. Anderson, did you locate anything about the troops you and Mr Gomez spied - that might be of use to us" Jackson asked. "The patrol seemed to be armed but lightly armored. They didn't bother to check around for us, most likely meaning they still do not know we are present on the station. Moreover, the patrol did not seem to be very competent, they did not form any kind of formation and seemingly had no leader." she added, she was not something you'd call a specialist for this kind of thing - but it was so obvious that even an Ferengi enterpreneur could spot it from miles away. "Is there any way we can locate our folks and get the heck off this thing?" Jackson asked. "I believe they can be in any of the four sides of the station, but not in the middle. According to the power relays across the station we all passed and the sheer amount of them going all to the center of the station, I think it is reasonably logical to assume the large portion of the station is in fact some kind of generator or a powerplant in the dead center of it. Still it's a lot of decks to check, without any kind of guide, it will be difficult to find them. The power conduits or their equivalent seem to all lead to the same part of the ship. Maybe we will find a computer console there, and may be in a possibility to access the layouts of the station. With the bit of luck we might even be able find the life signs of both our two missing officers and those belonging to the USS Tesla." she further explained. After realizing he was aiming at the Rose's 2O he lowered his weapon. "Good to see you both" he added with a smile "Sir" Andersen said nodding her head. "Lieutenant." Heath said in greeting. Then Jackson asked Anderson what she had found and the Doctor relayed the information to him about Powell's blood and what they assumed was the chairs function. Heath had kept from looking at the chair after they found the blood, it disturbed him that an advanced race still used such devices. Then Jackson wanted to know his thoughts on the matter. "The Doc's right Lieutenant." Heath said. "If one crew member was placed in that thing it's very likely others were subjected to the same treatment. The Commander and Lieutenant Kevras may also have been forced into that chair, it's a disturbing thought to say the least." Jackson then asked Anderson if they had found anything from the troops that might be of use. She described the troops and their movements, their light armament and apparent lack of discipline. Jackson then asked about finding their people and getting off the station. Anderson stated she believed they could be in either of the four sides of the station but not the center, the assumption that the central portion of the station was reserved for power generation was feasible. Creating an artificial wormhole would require a very large amount of power and a very large power source. "I have to agree with the Doc again Lieutenant." Heath said holding up his tricorder. "These things are almost useless except for a few feet and so far we haven't found a map or for that matter a computer console that we can access. As I said earlier if the troop we watched was any indication of the personal on this station sooner or later we're going to run into them and it may be necessary to fight our way through." What Ensign Gomez said made complete sense, forcing an engagement in the unknown territory, fighting under unknown terms an enemy you know nothing about really sounded more like a suicide mission then an actual viable solution. Still, they had to do something - they came here with a reason and they wouldn't go back empty handed. And then it struck her. "Luck!" she yelled, forgetting she's on an alien station, "That's exactly what we have." she further explained. Looking back at the two gentlemen she noticed a confused glance. No doubt, she must have looked like she just had an panic attack. But, instead, she got an idea. "I have an idea." she explained moving her left hand through air. "It is reasonable to assume they do not know about us being in here, correct?" she asked (Reply: Any) "Yes, precisely, that's what I'm basing my conclusion on. Thus, could it possibly mean, if they found a Starfleet officer, unarmed, that would seem she ran out of whatever confinement the rest of Tesla officers are in..." she paused, continuing in a lower voice "that they would pick her up and carry her back to the rest?" she asked with an accomplished face. (Reply: Any) "Yes, that's exactly what I mean. And I'm also volunteering, it's a perfect chance to actually see if our officers are with them and if they are alright. There is a high chance they are held together with the USS Tesla crew." she further explained. (Reply: Any) "It would work simple, I would carry an location device that would emit a certain kind of pulse, being relatively easy to track by our tricorders, for as long as we stay in an optimal distance." she said. (Reply: Any) "Well, yes, we don't really know that. In the worst case scenario, we will find out at least what's been happening with the USS Tesla crew..." she paused "and perhaps they can help us track our own crewmembers. It would also give more information about why were they held here." she explained, shrugging, trying to explain her thoughts. Or we're not a threat to them." Continued Matrix (Reply: Any) "Yes, precisely, that's what I'm basing my conclusion on. Thus, could it possibly mean, if they found a Starfleet officer, unarmed, that would seem she ran out of whatever confinement the rest of Tesla officers are in..." she paused, continuing in a lower voice "that they would pick her up and carry her back to the rest?" Matrix frowned at the idea, "Ensign, that's a very risky move, but could prove useful. On the other hand we could lose you as well. How do you propose we track you if you're captured?" asked Matrix (Reply: Any) "Yes, that's exactly what I mean. And I'm also volunteering, it's a perfect chance to actually see if our officers are with them and if they are alright. There is a high chance they are held together with the USS Tesla crew." she further explained. (Reply: Any) "It would work simple, I would carry an location device that would emit a certain kind of pulse, being relatively easy to track by our tricorders, for as long as we stay in an optimal distance." Said Andersen. "How do you know you won't be killed or even held in a separate location? This station is rather big and we've no idea what we're walking into." Continued Matrix. (Reply: Any) "Well, yes, we don't really know that. In the worst case scenario, we will find out at least what's been happening with the USS Tesla crew..." she paused "and perhaps they can help us track our own crewmembers. It would also give more information about why were they held here." Andersen explained. "Doctor I can't say that I like your idea, but I don't have an alternative at the moment. We could wander around this station for days and not find anything. Your idea seems to be the quickest way to finding our missing crew, or losing you." Said Matrix. (Reply: Any) "Anyone else have any ideas? Asked Matrix. He stated as he proceed towards Torell's cell. Ben had to admit the Lieutenant looked more in comtrol of himself, he was no longer pacing his cell like a caged animal and Ben no longer got the feeling the Lieutenant wanted to attack him. Stopping a couple feet from the forcefield Ben made eye contact with Torell. "Good to see your back to yourself Lieutenant." He said. "What did you wish to see me about." (reply Torell, any) (posted by Milo Young) ----- (USS Rosenante, Brig, Lt. Lan Torell, Day 1, 2042) Soma said, "Good to see you're back to yourself, Lieutenant. What did you wish to see me about." "Captain, I don't know how much you know of what has happened, so for the sake of time and security, I will speak as though you have no knowledge at all. "I am Lt. Lan Torell, an engineering officer from the Tesla. While we were studying the local plasma storm activity in this sector, a wormhole opened in front of us. Being scientists, we remained to study it. From someone on the other side, we were scanned. Captain Wesson tried to communicate with them, but they did not respond. "While in engineering, I was struck with a very strong telepathic contact literally forcing its way into me. I could not block it. It was as though I had no mental shields at all. I found that I no longer had control of my own thoughts and body. It was as though I was shoved aside, and a strong entity had possessed me." Torell paused, his eyes closed. He was remembering the pain of it. Sighing, he opened his eyes and continued. "The being controlling me made me sabotage both the shields and the warp drive, before my crew mates were able to stop me with a phaser stun. I don't know what happened from that time until I was revived from stasis by your people, but I still have clear memories of who did this to me and why." Torell went on to explain everything to Captain Soma. When he was finished, the four men in the room were silent. "As you see, Captain, we are in danger. We need to stop the Hikani at all costs."
